Malik appointed Pakistan captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday appointed Shoaib Malik as the new cricket captain. The Sialkot-born all-rounder takes over from Inzamam ul-Haq in troubled times. The PCB has handed him the charge for a year, and his first assignment could be the India-Pakistan one-dayer in Lord's this July. The PCB has also appointed Talat Ali the Manager for the next two years.
Malik, who has played county cricket for Gloucestershire, has 18 Test and 137 one-day caps. But since his debut in 1999, his bowling action has been reported twice to the ICC. That has forced the off-spinner to undergo corrective surgery twice on his right elbow, in a bid to correct his action.
