Cricket World Cup 2007 inaugurated

West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers officially declared the 2007 Cricket World Cup open early on 12th March, Monday morning (IST) at the Trelawny Stadium, Jamaica.
The ceremony showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean islands and was a feast for the eye. Over 2,000 singers, dancers and other performers who had been rehearsing for three months kept the spectators glued to their seats with dazzling performances. The theme of the opening ceremony was
'West Indian Energy', portraying the cultural diversity of the Caribbean.
Putting aside the rivalry on field, the players with their show of solidarity reflected the theme song of the tournament called
'the game of love and country'. Nearly 25,000 people had gathered at the Trelawny Stadium in Jamaica to see Sir Garfield Sobers declaring the World Cup open.
Indian viewers, however, were not been able to see the glittering three-hour-long event live on television and had to be content with a repeated telecast later on in the day.
