A tearful farewell for Inzamam

Pakistan Captain Inzamam Ul Haq bid a tearful farewell to one-day cricket on Wednesday, 21st March. In their last group game against Zimbabwe, he was dismissed for 37, caught by Sean Williams off the bowling of Tawanda Mupariwa. This was his last appearance as the national team captain and raised his bat to the small crowd, removed his cap and acknowledged the applause as he walked off the pitch sobbing. The entire Zimbabwe cricket team rushed to shake his hand and congratulate him, while his own teammates formed a guard of honor to see him back into the pavilion in Sabina Park. In a career spanning 378 one-day internationals, Inzamam remains one of the highest run getters in the game with 11739 runs to his name. He holds the record for the highest number of fifties (83) and has 10 centuries to his name at an average of almost 40. In a fitting tribute to late coach Bob Woolmer, Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe convincingly in the one sided encounter. At the start of the game Inzamam
said: "we will try to play to a high level, win the game and honor Bob. We have a good team but we have not been able to qualify for the next round." The victory was not sufficient for Pakistan to move ahead into the super eight stages since they have already crashed out of the world cup after losing both their opening games. The police have confirmed that they are treating the untimely death of the Pakistan coach as suspicious.
