When the CEAT Domestic Cricketers of the year were announced, Bengal had every reason to be proud although they had lost the finals to Mumbai. Three of the six awards went to two of their cricketers.
Manoj Tiwary was declared the Domestic Batsman of the year while Ranadeb Bose was the CEAT Domestic Cricketer of the year. The awards are based on the CEAT cricket ratings and those with the maximum points get the awards. "It was a real honour to get the award from a legend like Sunil Gavaskar," said Manoj Tiwary, CEAT Domestic Batsman of the Year. While Ranadeb Bose, CEAT Domestic Cricketer of the Year said,
"I was really surprised at getting this popular choice award."
The other stars of the evening were Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma who was adjudged the most Promising Player of the Year, while R Ashwin of Tamil Nadu was the Bowler of the Year. Rajinder Goel, the former Haryana left-arm spinner who never donned an India Cap since his career coincided with Bishen Singh Bedi, was given the Lifetime Achievement award.
It was a grand ceremony but most importantly it was an evening of recognition for domestic cricket and the cricketers who excelled during this past season. As Sunil Gavaskar, Adjudicator, CEAT Cricket Ratings rightly
remarked," These awards are a motivation for the domestic cricketers as it recognizes their performances."
